Glock 20 Sf Review - In this Glock 20 review, big-bore revolver expert Max Prasak carries a G20 with an RM20 optic and optional charging handle and goes after the bacon.
This will not be a subjective assessment. I'm not sure how I can hide this full size gun, in a full size chamber, under a jacket. I approach this test as an evaluation from a rifle hunter's perspective.

But first, let's take a quick look at the Glock 20 itself. The G20 is built on a full-size polymer frame to avoid delicate flowers. Full scale is also a way to describe capture. Standard magazine capacity is 15 rounds, standard barrel length is 4.6 inches and is equipped with front and rear sights. A fully loaded Glock 20 tips the scales at less than 40 ounces. I'll spare you the mechanical details because that's not why we're here.

We ordered this RMR mounting kit from Brownell's Strike Industries. We also added an optional charging handle to help with cycling the RMR mounted slide. Author's photo
Okay, so I've shot more than a few Glocks in my life, and the thing that stands out to me the most is that they are so reliable and always seem to work. However, I never considered it a serious hunting activity. To me, shotguns should have no more than six guns, and five if chambered in a sensible caliber. As I mentioned before, my everyday carry guns are revolvers. Rest assured, there is nothing more valuable than reliability, accuracy and familiarity with the firearm you carry.
My first thoughts were that the handle was a little on the thick side, but that wouldn't be good if the shooter had a large margin of error. The grip angle is also wrong for me, which is evident when I shoot the G20 from the bench. However, the seat is not everything and only tells part of the story. Until I hit the Glock in the field, I passed judgment.
I'm starting to feel that the 10mm load is more for personal defense than personal defense as I evaluate the Glock 20 as a hunting handgun. Federal's new 10mm load of 180-grain cupped softpoints (see page 48) is as popular as several offerings from Double Tap Ammunition, especially the 200-grain solid load. It should be noted that I never experienced even a single glitch or error in my testing regime. Of course, my test represents a small sample, but it is reassuring.

I first shot the Glock to familiarize myself with a few loads and decided that adding a Trijicom RMR reflex sight would be beneficial if I wanted to extend the usable range a bit. To use the RMR, you must remove the rear sight. I used a wooden dowel and hammer with a slide. Brownells has a specific tool for the job, and RMR requires a Strike Industries mounting kit that I ordered from Brownells. We also installed a loading handle for an additional rear sight to help ride the slide with the RMR installed.
I ordered a Glock 20 with an extra six inch barrel. To be honest, I was impressed with the accuracy the longer barrel provided and immediately put the original back in place and my accuracy improved significantly.
After completing the bench testing for accuracy and vision, I trained in a variety of areas, primarily including stone throws. Yes, it is the most difficult situation to master, but it prepares for everything that can be encountered in this field.

For the long weekend I booked a flight to Palm Beach with a G20 in tow. My good friend Jeff has a large hunting lease not far from Palm Beach, and like most of Florida, it is filled with large numbers of hogs.

My brother-in-law Vincent and I drove to the property early Saturday morning to meet Jeff. The morning session was very difficult, so we had the hottest part of the day until the afternoon. In hot climates like Florida, pigs will sit and feed during the hottest part of the day when temperatures drop in the afternoon and evening. We also came up empty in the second session.
On the way back to the resort, I climbed into the back seat of Jeff's car and looked for real Florida swamp wheat as dark figures moving in the fading light. We drove down a road to the left of the main road and I looked down and saw traffic at the end of the road. I hit the roof of the truck and Jeff was on the brakes. I told him to stand back, and there, 1,000 yards away, were black figures darting in and out of the brush.
Although it was some distance away, I jumped down, my Glock in hand and the long handle at the ready. Jeff and Vincent watched in amusement as I got out of the truck and headed for the wild boars. I managed to get within 20 meters of the edge of a field where I could hear the tall grasses moving and shouting. A pig came out, I could clearly see. I focused the point on his shoulder and let the 180 grain cup-bound bullet fly.
My aim was true, and the pig went down, and the pigs scattered over the field. When I came a little nearer, the fallen pig tried to rise, but I shot him in the neck, and the idea of escape was instantly abandoned. At that point I focused on another one at high speed and backed up to a stand of trees, jamming the next two arrows with my right brush. The smoke cleared and there was silence.

By now it was getting dark. We got the first pig box but didn't get the thick palmetto double digit pig place until tomorrow. Success. I'm really starting to dislike the G20.
I found the G20's strengths to be very, very running pig characters. The red dot helps with quick aiming in low light. I have been using red dot sights on my hunters for years. I don't feel that the G20 is limited to the role I have to serve, but I believe it is the right tool for the job. I would not hesitate to use it on larger game animals at reasonable distances.
I never shot the G20 past the 50 meter mark and felt most comfortable below 40 meters. In a single-stock configuration, at least in my hands, I think it's close to the limit in terms of range, but there are some market parts that could be greatly improved on a single-stock platform. It's not the G20's fault, as it's a pretty impressive hunting season in my self-imposed range, and I look forward to hunting more in the future.
Some like to call the automatic pistol the 10mm .41 Magnum. It's not fancy, but it boasts a large 10mm diameter (.40 caliber) and offers very impressive ballistics when loaded to spec.

I don't hunt with a gun to get a long shot. So I'm not into it. I like gardening, stalking and sneaking. It is difficult for me as a hunter. If you're looking for an affordable sidearm that can pull double duty as a personal defense piece and a basic hunting piece, the Glock 20 will serve you well.
